Leon Bates
Internationally Celebrated Concert Pianist who enjoyed international success, was born in Germantown and has recently retired to Mount Airy. From Eugene Ormandy’s Philadelphia Orchestra, to New York, to Paris, to Vienna, to Rome, to LaScala in Milan, to Johannesburg and beyond, he is a star in the firmament of classical music.
Barbara Bloom
After pursuing a successful career as a professor and university administrator, Barbara Bloom enhanced the lives of thousands of Northwest Philadelphia residence by founding Mount Airy Learning Tree, where thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds have come together for the last 40 years to learn from one another. More recently in 2000, she launched a group of volunteers to work with young students at Henry H. Houston school, building that team to over 30 regular volunteers. She is the author of
Ephemeral Blooms: A Memoir with Roots in Colorado.
Dan Gordon
A Community Advocate – Dan has been active in many recreational, educational and commercial capacities in Northwest Philadelphia since moving here with his wife Sally in the mid-90’s. He has rehabilitated a series of commercial properties along the Germantown commercial corridor and helped with the development of the Germantown Soccer Club and with the creation of the Wissahickon Wanderers running club. He has also worked to expand programming at Emlen School, Germantown Friends School, and Greene Street Friends School as well as Settlement Music School.
