Find out what’s happening in Mt. Airy and meet your neighbors while enjoying art making, delicious refreshments, and tours of Allens Lane Art Center’s facilities.
We’ll start the day with a fun art scavenger hunt in Allens Lane Park. At 1:00 pm join us in our Theater for a resource fair with the wonderful organizations that make Mt. Airy a great place to live. At 2:00 pm we’ll share a meal together and we’ll finish out the day with interactive art activities for all ages and tours of the Center. This event is free, family friendly, and open to the public! Registeration is suggested but not required.
Special guest, Abigail Perkiss, the author of Making Good Neighbors, will be interviewed by Christina Jackson at 12:15 pm during our event! Making Good Neighbors is a book about the powerful history of the racial and social justice movement in Mt. Airy during the early 1950s, which fought for integration and against redlining in our neighborhood. The book also has a whole chapter on the history of Allens Lane Art Center and the center’s crucial role in this grassroots movement. This talk is free and open to the public!
