[dflip id=”10209″ ][/dflip] Written by Dr. H.V. Gummere, the eminent astronomer and scientist who died on February 9, 1949. He was an alumnus of Haverford and Penn Charter, of which his son, John was headmaster. He taught at Haverford, Ursinus and Drexel, was a member of many scientific societies, a distinguished author, and an elder of the Friends Meeting. The article was submitted by his widow for publishing in the Crier in 1953. Note the postscript at the end of the article for more info.
